THE RISE OF SHAHIR MIAH

Behind The Face
So Shahir, tell me how
you started your music career.
Well, from a young age I was always into music. My mum
has probably got some videos of a 4-year-old Sully singing and performing in
school plays, but we won’t talk about that, haha. My family are very creative;
my siblings all like art or sport, but I was quite different when growing up. I
guess I just started making music on GarageBand on my dad’s Mac and it went
from there.
How did you get into
the music industry?
I put some of my music onto SoundCloud and it got over
3.5 million views and almost a million downloads, which is absolutely
overwhelming. Warner Bros. contacted me after hearing my music and asked if I
wanted to work with them. Obviously I wasn’t gonna turn down an offer like that
so I accepted, and now I’m here and I’m in the process of creating new music
for my fans.
How does it feel to be gaining so many new fans so quickly?
I didn’t know what to expect really, I
was so overwhelmed at first but I’m learning to adapt to it now. It’s really
weird to think that hundreds of thousands of people listen to my voice and my music. It’s just an incredible feeling.
Apart from music, what are your other hobbies?
Music has always been my main hobby,
but I love a bit of FIFA. I also watch a lot of TV; my favourite show at the
moment is ‘How To Get Away With Murder’. Other than that, most of my time is
dedicated to creating music.
Do you have any role
models?
That’s difficult to say really, I love Drake and the
Weeknd. I guess Drake has been a role model for me from quite a young age, but
I take inspiration from loads of different artists.
Finally what plans do
you have for the future?
Well I’m still new in the music industry and I’m still
young, so I think I have lots of options available to me. At the moment I’m
just focusing on making music and giving my fans what they want; I’ll just be
taking opportunities as they come.
